The Department of Modern Languages & Cultures is the beating heart of global education at the University of Idaho, since learning begins with communication and exchange.
We are enhancing our ability to foster student learning through active conversation by transforming one half of our current language lab into the MLC Café Experiential Learning Classroom. The space will have a warm, welcoming feel with comfortable seating and artistic décor. The MLC Café Classroom will offer a dynamic instructional space for a variety of structured and less structured activities, from lab courses in all of the languages we teach, to weekly conversation group meetings, to club activities. The relaxing setting will help lower the barriers to students' engaging in conversation in their learned languages, and it will resemble the kind of setting where they find themselves when they study abroad.
We have a planned budget of $5,000 to cover the cost of furniture and redecoration. MLC's generous supporters will match the first $1,500 donated for this project.

We want to fill the walls of the MLC Café Classroom with the names of our multilingual students, alumni, and friends!
