We are excited to share we are headed back to Anaheim, California in February 2024 to compete for a national title! The Vandal Cheer Team and the Vandal Gems will be competing head-to-head with other teams from across the nation. Last season we were able to complete our goal of going to USA Collegiate Spirit Nationals. The Vandal Cheer Team took 3rd place in Situational Sideline, 5th place in Band Chant Performance, and 6th place in the Fight Song Category. The Vandal Gems took 4th in Game Day Performance and 10th in DI Jazz. The Vandal Spirit Squad could not have had their success without your help. The Vandal Cheer Team and the Vandal Gems will be competing head to head with other teams from across the nation. The University of Idaho Spirit Squad features high energy cheering, stunting, tumbling, and dance performances all year long at UI Athletic events. The Vandal Spirit squad supports UI Athletics in their biggest moments and is now asking their Vandal Family for help and support. The Vandal Spirit Squad has already started working on skills to be competition ready this season. This is the Spirit Squad's chance to represent the University of Idaho in a new light on a national stage and need your help to make it happen. Any money raised will help pay for expenses to get the team to Nationals on February 25-26, 2023. Let's Go Vandals! Support Civil Engineering students in their efforts to build a steel bridge and compete with other schools around the region. AISC Steel Bridge Team We are a team of undergraduate students at the University of Idaho who compete annually in the Student Steel Bridge Competition organized by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). This is a year long project where we apply engineering concepts we learn in our classes to a real world scenario. At the start of the year, we receive a set of rules that mimic the same kind of contract we'll likely be working with in the future. From these rules, and using skills we learn in class, we design our scale model bridge. We attempt to minimize our cost as determined by the scoring, which changes each year with the rules. Once we're satisfied with our design, we move to the next step, which is gathering materials and building our bridge. We work in the shop using our design and drawings to construct it, and when we go to the competition, we are tested and timed during its construction. The bridge is also load tested, where we put 2,500 pounds on it to test how sturdy it is. The competition is meant to give us experience in an engineering project that replicates real world situations, and it's a great way for us to apply the knowledge and skills we are gathering in class. Your support helps our students get to the conference in order to showcase their skills and participate in various networking opportunities.

In today’s socially distant world, the performing arts are even more significant as a way to connect, process, and affirm our human experiences. Music & Dance Programs Our Project In the spring 2021, the UI-Dance Program will collaborate with the Lionel Hampton School of Music for the acclaimed production of DancersDrummersDreamers (DDD) and to celebrate it’s 30th anniversary. This one-of-a-kind production will feature dance performed to original, live music composed by the music faculty members and students with a special focus on DDD’s legacy. It will also feature past performances, alumni features, and patron interviews in a short film that honors the impact of this annual event. Honoring tradition, the UI-Dance Program will invite a nationally-known jazz dance guest artist to choreograph a finale piece and contribute to students’ historical understanding of jazz dance while furthering the dialogue for diversity and inclusion in the Arts. Our goal is to create a DDD style performance whether live, live streamed, or recorded. In today’s socially distant world, the performing arts are even more significant as a way to connect, process, and affirm our human experiences. This unique show elevates the human spirit and supports students’ educational understanding of excellence in dance and music. It is tentatively slated for March 25-27 2021 in the Hartung Theatre. History DDD was founded in 1991 by Professor of Music, Dan Bukvich and Professor of Dance, Diane Walker. The overall performance is like a modern vaudeville show with music, dance, songs and some slapstick comedy. It is a family event, described as eclectic, playful, fun, entertaining, collaborative, high octane energy and imaginative. The production has grown to approximately 100 students performing to sell-out crowds each spring and has toured throughout the Northwest region. This unique professional training program exists at no other university. The process of developing the concert is as important as the product. Participating students grow through experiential learning focused on problem solving, creative thinking, production and performance skills, and leadership development. What Will the Funding Do? Donations to this fund will directly help with the production costs of the performance and support student participation as well as community, alumni, and patron engagement. Funding will defray the following costs: theatre rental, technical/video support, lighting design, and costumes. Additionally, funding will support the guest artist residency and potential community engagement workshops. The cost of the program’s spring concert is typically covered through income from previous ticket sales. However, due to COVID-19, our spring 2020 main stage production was canceled, and a significant amount of projected income was lost. Your generous support will make a real difference in our ability to provide our students with this remarkable educational experience and to continue the legacy of DDD. Raven Scholars Program The Raven Scholar program is a free, donations-based support service for University of Idaho students with on the autism spectrum, with an 80% retention rate! Our program individualized services such as advocacy, one-on-one skills training, services coordination, case management, and intervention for early warning grades or faculty and staff concerns. One of the ways Raven Scholars helps students achieve such positive retention rates is community. We develop the student's social network through involvement with our returning Raven Scholars, Peer-Mentors and through monthly social events. Our dedicated space on campus is a safe haven for individuals on the spectrum with staff and interns who understand and appreciate Neurodiversity. Raven Scholars know they have a place where no one will judge them and where they can be truly accepted for who they are and get the support they need! WHAT WILL FUNDING ACCOMPLISH: Supporting Raven Scholars will allow us to continue to provide enriching educational and social supports. Help CNR and Engineering students build a timber walking bridge over Big Meadow Creek using wood from the UI Experimental Forest. UI Experimental Forest Help CNR and Engineering students work together with state agencies to design and build a timber recreation bridge over Big Meadow Creek on the UI Experimental Forest (UIEF) in Troy. This project will improve habitat for steelhead and will provide a real-world design, construction and restoration project for students. It will improve safe access to several miles of hiking, biking and cross-country skiing upstream, including new trails being built in 2020 and 2021. The bridge is being designed by students in the CE 494 Senior Design Project and Timber Design classes and will feature innovative use of Idaho timber using wood harvested on the UIEF by students in the forestry program. Big Meadow Road washed out during a flood in the early 2000s. We need to remove the old culverts and stabilize the banks when installing the bridge, building on long term efforts by Idaho Fish and Game, the City of Troy, and private landowners in the area. You can learn more about prior restoration work by IDFG immediately downstream in this video. Now it's time to do our part. Help us build the bridge!

College of Engineering The primary purpose of the Michael Kyte Distinguished Lecture is to bring honor and recognition to Professor Kyte’s contributions to the fields of transportation engineering and engineering education. The Department’s vision is to eventually offer this event each year both on the Moscow campus and at one other location in the Pacific Northwest. The overall goal is to bring visibility and awareness about contemporary transportation issues to the university community, practicing engineers, and the general public. In addition, it is viewed as an opportunity to recruit and attract students to the transportation discipline and engage those interested in learning more about UI’s programs in civil engineering. The Department has established a fund to endow the Michael Kyte Distinguished Lecture with an initial goal of $50,000, which would provide funding to ensure the lecture will be supported in perpetuity. Once $15,000 has been raised the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department and Dr. Patricia Colberg, CEE Department Chair, will match with $15,000!

"Majoring" in Argonaut as an Editor-in-Chief is difficult, a scholarship allows them to focus on their work, helping relieve other financial burdens. UI Argonaut The Argonaut has been serving the UI students, faculty and staff, as well as the Moscow community, since 1898. As an independent, student-run newspaper, the Argonaut is led by a student: the editor-in-chief. For generations, Argonaut editors-in-chief have spent countless hours guiding and inspiring teams of their fellow student editors, reporters, photographers and designers. In recent years, the job responsibilities have expanded to match the demands of a 21st century newsroom, with a website and social media that reach thousands of readers alongside the weekly print edition. The professional experience gained in the position has launched past editors-in-chief to incredible careers in print and broadcast journalism, public relations, nonprofit and corporate communications and beyond. Argonaut editors-in-chief give an incredible amount of time and energy to their staff members and readers -- "majoring in Argonaut," as some of our alums like to say. A scholarship allows them to focus on their work, helping relieve the pressure to take on another part-time job or pile up additional student loans. Our goal of raising $10,000 will help us build an endowment that will provide a scholarship for every Argonaut editor-in-chief in the future. The league we play in recently made a new rule requiring teams to have two sets of jerseys in order to play. Currently, we only have one set of jerseys. With a set of jerseys costing upwards of $1000, we need all the help we can get in order to continue to play. We were able to purchase our last set of jerseys thanks to a very generous donation from a local business and we are hoping our local communities are willing to help us again! About us: Our team consists of a mix of former collegiate, high school, and players getting their first exposure to the beautiful game of baseball. Our team centers around getting to know new people while also being able to share America's past time. Canyon County Master Gardeners Our Project: UI Extension Master Gardener Program is an essential source of accurate and user-friendly information to the Treasure Valley community about all issues gardening and landscape from seed to table. 2C Master Gardeners are a small group of 65 certified volunteers who work in teams to promote research-based and timely information on social media, conduct specialized research related to tree & turf issues, monitor and report out local pest and diseases issues to the internationally recognized PNW Pest Alert Network, and conduct youth outreach with the Junior Master Gardener program. How funding will help: International Conference This will send 2C Master Gardener volunteers to the International Master Gardener Conference to improve horticultural skills which will be shared through community outreach. During the six-day conference Idaho Master Gardeners learn from leading researchers & industry experts, attend workshops & tours to improve experiential knowledge in landscape & gardening, and network with diverse Master Gardener programs. Community Outreach & Programming We plan to continue to support the pest monitoring (insect trapping) in the greater Treasure Valley for home landscape and gardens which has reduced quantity of pesticides applied. In addition, funds raised will purchase supplies for conducting outreach and teaching events in Canyon County for youth and adults. Impact: We offer a free community plant diagnostic clinic accessed by over 900 clientele each year, serve as leaders for local community gardens donating 8,500 pounds of produce in 2019, and offer free community education classes to over 1,110 adults and youth, powered by 2,814 volunteer hours. This funding will help to expand these programs. CHHE Who we are: The Center for Health in the Human Ecosystem (CHHE) creates a new model of innovative, collaborative and transdisciplinary research, engagement and transformative education in plant, animal and human health and diseases. This center was founded in 2017 and is established in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. We work to bring together experts and trainees from relevant fields to share knowledge, tools and strategies. Our Project: The CHHE supports education about plant, animal and human health and diseases that is accessible to the general public. We would like to create short, informational videos about topics of public interest. These topics will include knowledge that everyday individuals, K-12 teachers, and students locally and across the state could use to understand common garden insects, pollinators, healthy soil, organic agriculture, and more. The videos would be created by students in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Idaho. With your help We would like to use the funds raised to purchase equipment and software to create these educational videos. We would like to buy a high quality camera, microphone equipment, a webcam, and software to complete our goal. Your generosity will help us achieve our goal of creating educational videos. We are the University of Idaho Ski Team and we are asking for your help. Our ski team is a a group of college athletes that come from a wide range of skiing and racing backgrounds. We love giving the students in the Moscow community a way to find people to ski with and enjoy the sport. Each year we have 4 conference races hosted by the Northwest Collegiate Ski Conference that we attend. At these events we compete in giant slalom, slalom, and dual slalom events at the conference and regional levels. Anyone that has been a part of this program knows that we love to have an opportunity to give students an affordable way to ski race. Unfortunately, with the climate of our world, our university allocations for the year have decreased by a significant sum. Along with this, we are in the need of a new timing system (our current one is on its last legs that have carried it since 1990). Our current timing system is used for time trials that decide our team seedings for races, our alumni race events, and our annual conference race at Brundage Mountain. This cost will take a large amount out of our smaller than typical budget. Our budget is used to pay for lodging, lift tickets, and race fees of our athletes throughout our season. Your donation will help not only us achieve this necessary purchase of our timing system but this will also allow for our program remain affordable for our college athletes. Anything that you can give will help. That can be a coffee, or a lunch for a racer on a day, or that can be picking up an athletes race fees for their whole season. The cost of this necessary equipment is going to be difficult for our club this season and any donations to our cause will help ensure that our club can continue to be successful and provide the opportunity to ski and make incredible memories doing so in an affordable way throughout their collegiate experience. The Debate Team at U of I wants to keep building their team and keep the group going after a nearly 30 year hiatus. Debate Team at U of I Project Goal: Our goal for this project is to make debate more accessible to more students. Debate is a costly activity, which is why we are asking for you to help support our efforts. Currently, we pay for 70% of our cost is out of pocket, which is a big strain on a college student budget. The reason that debate is so expensive is that there are so many fees we have to pay to even be allowed in the tournament. In addition to this, the tournaments are not close enough that we can drive there in the mornings. We want to share this amazing activity with our fellow students but we need your help to do it. About our team: We are a relatively new team here on campus. This has given us an amazing opportunity to watch our club grow and get better at every tournament. Our team has had amazing success and we want to keep that momentum going.

The English Department is re-envisioning the beloved Hemingway Festival into The Palouse Literary Festival, with a special focus on artists from the Northwest. U of I English Department The University of Idaho used to house the very successful Hemingway Festival annually. Due to the loss of funding, the festival ended. Now, the University of Idaho English Department is re-envisioning it as The Palouse Literary Festival. Our inaugural event brought in writers from all over the Pacific Northwest, including Leni Zumas, Sam Roxas-Chua, John Sibley Williams, and Debra Gwartney, a University of Idaho alumnus. As with last year, our festival will consist of a full schedule of events centered around a slate of featured visiting writers and will take place from October 15 -17, 2020. In order to continue this important cultural work, we need your help. Money gathered through this campaign will directly supply the honorariums to bring in fantastic writers. Humanitarian Engineering Corps UI-HEC is a student-run design organization that connects UI students of all majors and technical backgrounds through international service opportunities. This summer we finished up our five-year project working with the community of Carani on the Bolivian Altiplano, and now we are excited to be starting a new project with the community of Challcha, Bolivia! In collaboration with our Bolivian partners, UI-HEC is working to design and install infrastructure that will bring clean, accessible drinking water to the people of Challcha. Students in UI-HEC develop valuable skills such as cultural competence, interdisciplinary teamwork, sustainable design, communication and project management, as we utilize our engineering abilities for the good of humanity. Your donations help us pay for travel expenses and building supplies for our summer trip to Bolivia where we are able to travel to Challcha to discuss project goals with community leadership directly, educate community members about system maintenance, and turn our designs into drinking water! Concrete Canoe Competition

The American Society of Civil Engineers is in the process of building their concrete canoe to compete at their Regional Competition this Spring.
The American Society of Civil Engineers is in the process of building their concrete canoe to compete at their Regional Competition this Spring. ASCE Our Project: The American Society for Civil Engineers Student Chapter (ASCE) is a team of undergraduate students tasked with designing and constructing a concrete canoe. The purpose of the task is to engage our creative thinking to design a canoe shape that's stable, but also slim to race at the annual three-day Regional Conference in April while following a set of standards. By using a mix of lightweight aggregates (expanding glass beads and pumice), we are able to create a canoe close to the density of water so the canoe will stay afloat. At the end of February, the team will be ready to place the concrete onto the prefabricated foam mold. After just over 40 days of curing, the canoe will be sent to the host school for this year's regional conference. During the conference, the canoe is first displayed with other schools in the Pacific Northwest. This gives the teams an opportunity to see other schools' designs and discuss strategies on how to improve the canoes for the next year. The next day, the canoe is swamp tested. This involves placing the canoe into the water, filling it with water, and timing how long it takes for the entire gunwale of the canoe to float to the surface. If the density of the canoe is greater than water, teams are able to add bulkheads made of foam board on either end of the canoe encased in concrete. How funding will help: Funding is a vital part of attending the annual ASCE Regional Conference and helps provide: Canoe materials A major cost the team encounters is purchasing materials to build the canoe. This includes the aggregates, cementitious materials, additives, foam board, and mesh. Regional Conference This includes the cost of hotel rooms for 3 nights near the host school, student and school registration fees, and transportation. This event hosts a panel of lawyers from a broad spectrum of backgrounds, and all possess years of experience in varying areas of the law. We structure the panel by having our advisor, Dr. Aman Mcleod, serve as a moderator. Each attorney speaks briefly about their own background and discusses questions prompted by Dr. Mcleod. We round out the panel with a period of Q&A from the students attendees. Last year this event was a huge success and we hope to have even better turnout this spring. This interactive panel allows students curious about a career in law to have any burning questions answered on the spot! Money raised will go directly towards food and refreshments provided for both the panelists and students. Any additional funding will be used for future Pre-Law Society events.

Each year, the University of Idaho students and Moscow residents come together to share a taste of their home countries. The International Ballroom in the Bruce Pitman Center is transformed into a global village with a vibrant array of food booths, performances, and activities that invite community members to engage across cultures. This crowdfunding campaign is the first step in a broader effort to raise $25,000 and establish an endowment for Cruise the World's 25th birthday in 2023! Funds will be used to provide compensation to the international student leaders who organize Cruise the World 2021 and cover the cost of labor and supplies purchased through food services. Any remaining funds will go toward establishing a Cruise the World endowment. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers wants to renovate an old space into a new lounge for students of all disciplines to collaborate and relax daily. ASME The University of Idaho Chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering strives to introduce the students in the College of Engineering, as well as the rest of the university, to the various ways in which mechanical engineering in used in the industry at large. The club hosts a variety of local industry tours throughout the year, the highlight of which is the Spring Industry Tour to Seattle, Washington. On campus, the club invites industry professionals and professors to give talks and answer student questions about the speaker’s lives as professional engineers. The ASME Student Lounge provides a great space to host these events, for students to engage with one another in their studies, work on projects, and to generally de-stress between classes. However, the lounge needs a serious boost. The current furniture, which seems nearly as old as the building, needs to be replaced and there is simply not enough project space for everyone to have a spot. The drab walls and echo place a damper on what would otherwise be the hottest spot on campus. Where will the buck stop? Every dollar donated will go directly to improving the lounge, creating a fantastic space where students will feel comfortable and can accomplish great things. Result Adding more worktables, couches, and project space will allow for the lounge to accommodate more students at a given time, crafting a fun and inclusive atmosphere. New paint and sound dampening tiles will create a relaxing and enjoyable space, likely attracting more students to the space. Installing a projector and projection screen that has been donated to the club will capabilities of the lounge. Spreading the Word One of the most valuable commodities in the professional world is networking. U of I Honors Program Our Project: The University Honors Program produces the academic and creative publication The Looking Glass as part of our commitment to service-learning. The magazine’s editorial staff consists entirely of honors students. The magazine features submissions by honors students in the genres of original research, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, short stories, essays, photography, and art. This issue includes thirty-two entries from eleven honors students representing eight academic programs. The publication represents a diverse group of voices and perspectives that exemplify the high quality work of our students. The Looking Glass, while unique to the University of Idaho, is also a shared experience of honors students and their programs across the country that produce similar publications. What will the funding do? Your donation fosters student learning and creative activity. Through your support of a print publication our students gain a unique educational experience. We intend to use the money to offset the cost of publishing Volume 15 of the magazine. The Impact: Producing a print magazine offers an academic forum for nearly 700 honors students for their work to be published and to retain a copy for life. U of I Theatre Arts Department Our Project: The Department of Theatre Arts produces a 6-show season each academic year. Helping to design and build the sets for these productions provides an invaluable education for both undergraduate and graduate students in our department, but it’s a labor-intensive operation. Over the course of a typical season, students and faculty in our scene shop cut thousands of pieces of lumber according to various design specifications to construct the scenery. Our current table saw has simply come to the end of its useful life, and we just don’t have the money in the budget to replace it. That’s why we’re turning to our fans, our audience – the people we’re ultimately creating great theatre for – to help us reach our fundraising goals. What will the funding do? We plan to use the money to purchase a new professional grade saw stop (or table saw) which will be far more efficient, and considerably safer, than our old saw. The Impact: A new, safer saw for the Hartung Theater scene shop, will allow us to continue providing our students and the general public with high-quality, thought-provoking theatrical entertainment, that improves the quality of life for everyone on the Palouse, and provides an essential educational experience for our Vandal theatre artists, who will go off to become the next generation of theatre artist … continuing our rich legacy. U of I Clean Snowmobile Team The Clean Snowmobile Challenge Team at the University of Idaho (UICSC) has traveled to attend the Society of Automotive Engineers Clean Snowmobile Challenge every year since 2000. This gives students the opportunity to participate in an internationally recognized engineering competition. The team strives to produce innovative solutions to make our snowmobile cleaner, quieter and more efficient, as well as practical for both manufacturers and snowmobilers alike. This year one of our main projects is a rear-drive system for the track to improve efficiency. Our goal is to raise funding for some expensive parts such as belts, gears, tensioners, and drivers. The design is finished and modeling is well under way, but we need your support to bring this project to competition in March 2020. AISC Steel Bridge Team We are a team of undergraduate students at the University of Idaho who compete annually in the Student Steel Bridge Competition organized by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). This is a year long project where we apply engineering concepts we learn in our classes to a real world scenario. Last year we spent over 800 hours working on our bridge! At the start of the year, we receive a set of rules that mimic the same kind of contract we'll likely be working with in the future. From these rules, and using skills we learn in class, we design our scale model bridge. We attempt to minimize our cost as determined by the scoring, which changes each year with the rules. Once we're satisfied with our design, we move to the next step, which is gathering materials and building our bridge. We work in the shop using our design and drawings to construct it, and when we go to the competition, we are tested and timed during its construction. The bridge is also load tested, where we put 2,500 pounds on it to test how sturdy it is. The competition is meant to give us experience in an engineering project that replicates real world situations, and it's a great way for us to apply the knowledge and skills we are gathering in class. Your support helps our students get to the conference in order to showcase their skills and participate in various networking opportunities.

Please help support renewable SOLAR energy, one of many cost-saving steps the university is taking on its journey toward carbon neutrality by 2030. U of I Sustainability Center BEYOND THE RIGHT THING TO DO: THE VALUE OF FUNDING SOLAR IN HIGHER EDUCATION Today, a new student-led University of Idaho (U of I) Sustainability Center project is bringing the first solar array to the U of I Campus! With your help, this project will see the installation of 393 photovoltaic solar panels and yield 145kW of renewable energy! WHY SOLAR? There are three core reasons why we believe installing solar power is the right decision for the U of I, and why our team has spent the past two years working to make this goal a reality. The first and most obvious reason is that we, as an institution, have made commitments to sustainability. This was most recently affirmed in our 2016 strategic plan, where sustainability is identified as one of our five core values. Another commitment we’ve made is the climate action plan which took a comprehensive look at our institution’s carbon footprint and committed us to trying to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. Lastly, reducing our carbon footprint is one of the biggest moves we can make to become more sustainable. Because most of our emissions come from electricity consumption, we need to start exploring ways to get the energy we need while still honoring our commitment to sustainability. SCOPE OF WORK: Upon completion of a University of Idaho solar site assessment comparing 15 rooftop and ground mount locations, the Institutional Research and Innovation Center (IRIC), the university’s first LEED GOLD building, was determined to be the most suitable location for the first photovoltaic solar array. IRIC can support 393 panels, produce 145kW of energy, and meet 15% of this energy intensive building’s annual demand; however, during the summer months, the array will produce nearly 100% of IRIC’s energy needs. BENEFITS: The benefits to the university are numerous! Rising energy costs are reduced and held stable for 25 years or more; the array is revenue neutral and repays the initial investment through energy generation; faculty and students gain access to a working array for research and tours; the scalable design can be installed in one or two phases; and U of I attracts the 63% of prospective students who prefer universities that are tackling the climate crisis, while simultaneously contributing to our institutional climate commitments! SHARED FUNDING: The total project cost estimate is $365,000. Together with Facilities, the Sustainability Center, and ASUI we have raised 56% of the capital needed. Donations of $166 support the purchase of one solar panel or you can sponsor a portion of a panel at any giving level. All donations are appreciated and will be acknowledged in a permanent Kiosk located near the array. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! U of I Horse Polo The University of Idaho Polo Club offers any full time University of Idaho student the opportunity to learn about horsemanship and play polo. We do not require any prior experience, polo or horseback riding, and we welcome all ages. We have a women's and men's varsity team and a co-ed junior varsity team, all of which compete against neighboring university teams throughout the season. Part of running this sports club is caring for its polo ponies, which are owned by the club. We currently have three horses that require regular feeding, graining, farrier and veterinary visits, as well as boarding. Boarding costs $200 per horse per month, each bag of grain costs $30, and each farrier visit costs about $90. Your donations will help us finance the maintenance for our horses and allow us to continue to provide the unique opportunity of playing polo to students.

True to our founding mission, we're continuing to facilitate opportunities for deep learning and engaged activism, in order to support and empower all individuals in building an inclusive and compassionate society. The Women's Center is a critical resource on campus for students, offering a wide variety of programs and services. In response to student feedback, we've recently started renovating our former library to create a new study space that everyone can use. Our students need access to suitable work stations with up-to-date technology, printing capabilities, a place to charge their mobile devices, and furnishings that allow for independent study and the facilitation of group meetings. Our students deserve a modern, comfortable place to fulfill their academic endeavors and pursue personal and professional development goals. We need your help in achieving these goals! Our computers and work stations are outdated and slow, the furniture in the room is uncomfortable and ill-suited to the space, and our printer no longer works. We're relying on your contributions to continue helping us do what we love to do--serve our students and provide them with the tools to be successful. Last year we were able to send 3 student veterans to the SVA's 2019 National Conference in Orlando, Florida. This year, we would like to send 3 more student veterans with your help. SVA's 12th Annual Annual National Conference will be in Los Angeles, California, January 3-5, 2020. The National Conference is an annual gathering of student veterans from across the country that strengthens ties between veterans and higher education communities. The National Conference offers educational breakouts, inspirational general sessions, networking, and professional opportunities designed to support student veterans and prepare them to become tomorrow's leaders. As the largest event of its kind for higher education leaders, policy makers, and stakeholders, SVA's National Conference is the premier event for supporting and enhancing student veteran success. This year SVA expects over 2,000 student veterans, alumni, higher education personnel, researchers, and policymakers to attend. Student veterans face many obstacles while trying to complete their degrees. They tend to be older, have families, be employed, and may have service-connected disabilities. The SVA National Conference provides workshops, breakout groups, and information sessions aimed at providing student veterans the necessary tools to succeed in school, while also connecting them to like-minded and similarly-situated people from across the nation. U of I Men's Hockey The University of Idaho Men’s Ice Hockey team has been a long-standing sports team that has always given students a chance to see a high performing, fast paced sporting event where an Idaho team is competitive. While it is considered a club team, we do participate in regulation American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division II games regularly. The last decade alone has seen numerous rivalry games between UI and BSU, WSU, and EWU. The most notorious being the annual Black and Blue Rivalry game played at CenturyLink Arena in Boise generating thousands of dollars for the local Meals on Wheels service. However, events like those seem to be a thing of the past considering our current situation. Over the last few years our numbers have dwindled due to a lack of awareness and funding for a team that, for those students who are fortunate enough to come to games, opens up an entirely new world of competitive Vandal sports. Most students who attend have never seen a professional hockey game, let alone a college one, and to them, it’s magic. For us, it’s just as incredible of an experience – the crowd roaring, whether its cheers or boos, traveling 400+ miles to play games around the northwest, playing at a Division II level – it is simply surreal. Many of our boys have never experienced anything like that, and most never will again. Since Kasey Peach became Captain his sophomore year in 2016, he, along with other alumni – Nick Grover, Kyle Watne, Dustin Pierce, Thomas Behre and countless others – have done whatever they can to help support us in our endeavors, and now we're asking you, our Vandal Family, to help us be the Vandal Hockey Program the University of Idaho deserves.

U of I English Department The University of Idaho used to house the very successful Hemingway Festival annually. Writers featured at the festival included luminaries such as Yaa Gyasi and Ottessa Moshfegh. Due to the loss of funding, the festival ended. Now, the University of Idaho English Department is re-envisioning the festival as a new annual literary festival called The Palouse Literary Festival. This new festival will be consist of a full schedule of events centered around a slate of featured visiting writers and will take place from October 17-19, 2019. In order to bring back and revitalize this important cultural point of coming-together, we need your help. U of I Architecture Program Special thanks to Bill Messner for his $2,500 match challenge and all the donors that helped us fulfill that match! University of Idaho architecture students plan to travel to Togo, Africa, to design a sustainable school for girls. Recent U of I grad, Payton McGriff, founded a non-profit, S H E | Style Her Empowered. To help overcome limited access to education for rural women of Togo, S H E provides resources and mentorship so girls can attend school, learn trade skills and be successful. S H E is currently in Notse, a semi-rural village with nearly 20,000 inhabitants located an hour north of Togo’s capital, Lome. Notse is credited as the birthplace of the Ewe people, a tribe spanning Ghana, Togo and Benin that has one of the oldest and richest cultural traditions in the West African region. S H E has a small office in the center of Notse, but is looking to expand and build a new campus with classrooms, living accommodations for girls, and staff offices. Architecture students plan to travel to Togo in September to interact with people and learn about the cultural and physical context before spending the rest of the semester on masterplans and building designs for the sustainable school campus. But students need your help to fund their travel, so please donate whatever you can to make this trip possible.

The acoustic hum of natural phenomena in Zimoun's minimalist constructions effortlessly reverberates emotional depth. The Prichard Art Gallery will join an internationally significant group of venues that includes the Museum of Contemporary Art MAC Santiago de Chile; Museum of Contemporary Art Busan, South Korea; and NYU Dubai. Opening summer of 2019, with Moscow Artwalk and extending into Fall semester 2019. The Prichard has a reputation as the premier venue for cutting-edge contemporary art and continues to present the most challenging content in the region. We are asking for your help to get a new and improved Joe. With the current state of our mascot suits, we are not sure if Joe will make it another season. Our current mascot suits are falling apart and have required some innovative thinking on how to make them work. We have done patch work, sewn in new straps/material, tried to replace chin straps in both heads, and more. There is only so much repairing we can do before we need to replace them. Not to mention, there are permanent odors in the suits as well. The two suits we have are approximately eight and thirteen years old. So, you can imagine all of the sweat build up from student volunteers over the years. Currently, students are uncomfortable while wearing and acting in these costumes. They are constantly having to readjust the suits while in them; whether it is preventing the pants from falling down, shoe covers not staying buckled, or the head bobbling too much. Joe is the face of our institution and we want to represent our university well. The U of I Spirit Squad is funded through student fees and do not have other avenues of revenue other than fundraising, which is why we are reaching out to our Vandal family. At its 15 acre campus on the shores of Payette Lake, MOSS students begin weeklong journeys that have them exploring Ponderosa State Park, doing field experiments, collecting data, and discovering the scientist in themselves. This is all made possible by the incredible faculty and staff who are committed to MOSS's mission of transforming individuals and communities through innovative research and educational experiences. As you may know, the experience of DOING science is what makes MOSS so impactful and we DO a lot of science along the shore and in the open water of Payette Lake. Now we need your help: it is time for MOSS to add a second BIG canoe to our program. Our goal is to raise enough funds ($8500) to purchase a 29' Langley Canoe along with the necessary paddles and personal flotation devices (PFDs). As more students come to MOSS, we find that we do not have enough time for everyone to get a turn in our big canoe. Logistically, this challenges us to make sure all students gain equal time on the water and have access to this great resource. In collaboration with our Bolivian partners, UI-HEC has designed and implemented the third phase of a four-part freshwater distribution system, and are currently working on the final phase to serve the fourth zone of the community. Help support the efforts of University of Idaho’s Naval Officer Education Program (NOEP) in hosting the historic Northwest Navy Competition UI NOEP Battalion The creation of the Northwest Navy Competition in the early 1950s was inspired by a desire to develop a sense of cohesion and comradery between the future officers of the United States Navy and Marine Corps within the Pacific Northwest region. After more than 70 years, the competition is still held annually between four NOEP units: Oregon State University, University of Idaho, University of Utah, and University of Washington. With over 300 midshipman (officer candidates enrolled in a commissioning program), staff, alumni, and families, the Northwest Navy Competition is easily one of the largest, and most anticipated, events of the year. This year’s Northwest Navy Competition is very special as it will be hosted in Moscow, ID, by the University of Idaho’s NOEP Battalion in May of 2019. While it is still early, there is a buzz of excitement among midshipman from all four competing schools; everyone is looking to bring home the title victory, especially in events like the tug-of-war championship, close order drill competition, and a land navigation course. Every year UI NOEP has fundraised to ensure all midshipman can attend the Northwest Navy Competition. Now we are asking for your support in making this leadership event become a reality. With $8,000 the UI NOEP unit would have funding it needs to host this historic competition, including reserving the required space, setting up the events, and accommodating midshipman from other schools. KUOI 89.3 FM KUOI 89.3 FM is the non-commercial, student-run radio station for the University of Idaho campus. We have been operating since 1945 and want to continue broadcasting new and interesting music to our listeners. To do this, we need to replace our master control board as soon as possible. Our board has aged rapidly and although it still works, it will need to be replaced soon—something we'd like to do in the next year to ensure that we can continue to stay on the air without worrying about it breaking down. The total cost of the project is estimated at $20,000, and Student Media has set aside several thousand to help us pay for a replacement board. This board connects to our transmitter, which allows radio to go over the airwaves, and has been in place for the last 18 years. Without this piece of equipment, our DJs can not do their shows and our airwaves would be completely run by the robot. Please help us reach our $7,500 goal to install this essential piece of equipment. As a part of Student Media, KUOI provides hands on experience to better prepare students for the professional world and opportunities for other radio enthusiasts to connect with the Moscow community. Women in Science Society Women are significantly underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and math, which is why the Women in Science Society was created at the University of Idaho. This club provides support, networking and other opportunities for college women studying in STEM fields. By providing women the chance to attend conferences such as those listed below, we can ensure that the next generation of engineers, scientists, technology developers, and mathematicians are diverse and equal! In our first semester, we have recruited almost 50 active dues-paying members from across five colleges: Science, Engineering, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Life Sciences, and Education and Human Health Services. We are also hoping to have 50 supporters give to our campaign to help us fulfill our mission. You can make this possible by donating today. There are a number of different conferences our members are interested in attending, and which a woman attends will depend on her interests, availability, and the amount of funds we are able to raise throughout the campaign. The Department of Modern Languages & Cultures is the beating heart of global education at the University of Idaho, since learning begins with communication and exchange. We are enhancing our ability to foster student learning through active conversation by transforming one half of our current language lab into the MLC Café Experiential Learning Classroom. The space will have a warm, welcoming feel with comfortable seating and artistic décor. The MLC Café Classroom will offer a dynamic instructional space for a variety of structured and less structured activities, from lab courses in all of the languages we teach, to weekly conversation group meetings, to club activities. The relaxing setting will help lower the barriers to students' engaging in conversation in their learned languages, and it will resemble the kind of setting where they find themselves when they study abroad. Why We're Fundraising Emergency and Support Services We're raising funds to provide emergency and support services that allow our TRIO scholars to continue their educations. For scholars without sufficient financial means or family support, this funding can mean the difference between staying in college and dropping out. Emergency housing during the breaks, emergency transportation, and sufficient winter clothing are all needs for University of Idaho TRIO scholars. The College Experience This funding also allows for alternative programming to be developed that give TRIO scholars and their families access to the traditional college experience. Please help us raise the funds we need to attend the MTNA National Conference to present our topic, #postmillenials – Connecting with the iGeneration Music Teachers Association Our chapter of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) at the University of Idaho is one of the most active collegiate chapters in the region. We are a group of undergraduate and graduate students that have a shared love for piano and piano teaching, and contribute our time and talents to research, service, and outreach activities. Our chapter has conducted research on innovative projects, presented research at conferences, performed, and competed at MTNA sponsored events across the country. Through active and extensive involvement in MTNA, our chapter at UI serves as a representative and ambassador of the University at local and national levels, in addition to gaining networking and professional development opportunities. In a conference comprised of distinguished music educators from across the nation, it is invaluable for our chapter represent the University of Idaho and the ground-breaking work we do here. For our chapter members personally, this experience also allows us to gain a resumé builder, networking opportunities that will benefit us for years to come, and unique and memorable learning experiences in the field we love. We have most recently been selected to present our current research project, #postmillenialpianists – Connecting with the iGeneration at the MTNA National Conference in Orlando, Florida. Factors such as technology and increased information processing cause younger students to learn in a whole new style than the pre-millennial generations, and our goal is to provide creative ways to approach post-millennial students and to bridge this generational gap. This conference is a wonderful opportunity to present this innovative topic, to gain invaluable networking with colleagues and teachers in our field from across the country, and to represent the University of Idaho at a national level.

Polymorphic Games is an evolutionary video game studio at the University of Idaho. Students in the studio build interdisciplinary collaboration and communication skills through the shared creation of commercial video games that model biological evolution. Project Hastur Project Hastur is an evolutionary "fortress" game that combines elements from the tower defense and real time strategy video game genres. We draw our inspiration from tower defense games with amazing game play (like KINGDOM RUSH), RTS games with compelling visuals (like STARCRAFT), and thrilling sci fi movies (like EVERYTHING JOHN CARPENTER HAS EVER DONE). Project Hastur takes place on the planet Nyx and its three moons; Clotho, Lacheisis, and Atropos. You play the role of a planetary defense commander who must protect humanity from the PROTEAN SWARM, the formerly space-bound alien menace from our first game, Darwin's Demons. Unfortunately for humanity, the Protean Swarm have made planetfall. Project Hastur is unique because the enemies are modeled on a biological population that evolves as you play. The enemies that deal the most damage to your base or devour the most civilians have the most offspring - offspring that inherit their parents' traits. This evolutionary model provides a unique gameplay experience to each player, and great replay value because the mutations that create genetic variation in the Protean Swarm are randomly determined. One thing that we have learned from making evolutionary games - evolution makes games very challenging! Rather than relying on carefully balanced and pre-programmed scripted levels, our games are open-ended challenges in which you face procedurally generated enemies. The procedural generation algorithm reacts to how YOU play the game. The evolvable alien traits in Project Hastur include walk speed, run speed, acceleration, health, armor, energy resistances, damage output, sensory radius, and preferences for destroying towers, civilians, or your base. Polymorphic Games has created a functional beta version of Project Hastur. The evolutionary mechanics are encoded, we've created many digital assets, and most importantly, encoded a terrifying 3D version of the Proteans, called Vermis apostata, that can evolve within our game engine (we use Unity). We need YOUR support to bring Project Hastur from the beta stage to the fully realized commercial game it can be. A game with 16 gorgeous 3D playable maps, linked by a story driven campaign, and fully upgradable defensive towers for the player's use. The evolving swarm. On each level, face waves of Proteans devouring everything you've built. Try to protect the human civilians - otherwise the Proteans will devour them, too, and turn them into more monsters to bolster the ranks of their swarm. Five different tower types. Place five different types of towers to defend against the Proteans. Each tower type has unique capabilities and drives different evolutionary outcomes. The Science of Project Hastur Project Hastur is built on a mathematical model of evolutionary biology. Our game includes the foundational ingredients of evolution: Variation, Inheritance, Selection, and Time. Below, we summarize the basics of the science. WARNING: Prepare to get NERDY! VARIATION: Each individual Protean is encoded by a digital genome of diploid quantitative trait loci. These loci are mapped to "traits", such as health or run speed, using a variety of adjustable (by us, not you) functions. The traits determine the creatures' abilities in the game. Variation in the genes is created by mutations, which are generated from a Gaussian distribution. INHERITANCE: Proteans are modeled as diploid hermaphrodites, meaning we don't have separate males and females, but new Proteans inherit a chromosome set from each of their two parents. Proteans inherit a combination of their parents traits, determined by the sum of their numerical genotypes at each quantitative trait locus. The loci are encoded with free recombination, but the recombination model can be changed (again, by us, not you). In addition to sexual reproduction requiring two parents, Proteans can reproduce asexually by devouring a civilian. In this case, offspring Proteans inherit both sets of chromosomes from the same parent, but mutation still occurs. SELECTION: The player imposes selection on the Proteans by building tower-based defenses. The Proteans are motivated to destroy your base, your towers, and your civilians, and they gain "fitness" for doing these things. At the end of each generation, we perform tournament selection to identify the parents of the next generation based on their "fitness." The Proteans with the highest fitness are more likely to be selected as parents. TIME: Instead of the classic "waves" in most tower defense games, our game features "generations." Each generation, Proteans with traits that better enable them to evade your defenses, destroy your towers, and devour your civilians are most likely to be selected as parents and to have the most babies. In other words, that Protean that rampaged through your defenses before finally being brought down by an airstrike? Expect the next generation to be full of its equally terrifying offspring. Over time, the population adapts to your defenses - thus the difficulty of the game literally evolves in response to your decisions! Polymorphic Games performs a lot of outreach, and we are collaborating with faculty from the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences to measure the educational impact of our games. By supporting Project Hastur, you are helping us build games based on science that can be used for informal learning of evolution and genetics. CAMPAIGN GOALS: $10,000: CAMPAIGN FUNDED! Our artists will make 16 gorgeous playable maps, spanning one planet and three moons. Our writers will craft and refine a compelling story that links all the maps and allows the player to discover the mysterious origin of Vermis apostata! Our programmers will link it all together! $15,000: MORE SCIENCE! Migration and meta population dynamics! Our programmers and biologists will encode a migration model into the game, allowing the evolved aliens to invade new maps and proliferate. Your choice of which missions to accept will now have very real and very terrifying consequences! $20,000: EXPERIMENT MODE! In experiment mode, you'll be able to adjust the parameters of the evolutionary model, including mutation rate, mutation effect size, population size, recombination rates, migration rate, and more. $30,000: ENDLESS MODE! We'll create a new custom map for Endless Mode, where you simply must hold out as long as you can agains the ever-evolving Protean Swarm. This mode will be featured on our Steam Leaderboards. $50,000: NEW SPECIES! We'll add in a new species of Protean (maybe a tentacled eyeball?) that you'll have to defend against. Some maps will feature Vermis apostata, some will feature the new species, and some will feature both! FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: When will the game be released? We are targeting a release date of 6 months after our campaign ends. Thus, September of 2018. What will the game cost? Our target price point is $19.99. Can I name civilians, statues, or buildings in someone else's honor? Yes, but we'll need evidence that you have that person's permission. Will the stretch goals delay game release? Nope. A more successful campaign means we can hire more student developers for more hours per week. More money = more developer bandwidth. Nicaragua Partnership The Nicaragua Partnership offers student scholarships for a two-week summer study abroad to learn, serve and grow in rural Nicaragua. Our Nicaragua partners, health and education professionals, traditional healers, development experts, and community members, generously invite students into their health clinics, schools, organizations and homes. Students have the opportunity to work alongside our partners and learn as they assist in a clinic, teach English lessons, lead a basketball practice, interview indigenous community leaders, and learn from traditional healers. Since 2013, Students have joined hands with our Nicaraguan partners to assist with needed projects. During this summer 2018 trip, students will help construct a wheelchair-accessible ramp for a remote health clinic, expand the clinic’s medicinal garden, help provide scarce medical supplies, replace flood-damaged library books, and raise support for one year of leadership training for four community members in a desperately poor area. Our Nicaraguan partners will benefit from our material and physical support, and we will leave Nicaragua touched and changed by our partners' expertise and their open hospitality, warm hearts, and generous and strong spirits. The Nicaragua Partnership aligns seamlessly with the mission and strategic plan of the University of Idaho to engage with partners to solve complex issues, to appreciate and embrace diversity, and to provide rich and meaningful learning opportunities for students. Thank you to all of the supporters. We will be making videosand keeping everyone up to date on our progress. If you would like to make a contribution, we will use all further funds to support trying high performance materials like graphene for comparison to the final low-cost DIY recipe. Thanks again for all of the support! My name is Peter Allen, and I am a chemist. I make videos about chemistry, science, experiments, and DIY projects that happen in the Allen Lab. We make batteries, grow crystals, build microfluidics, and blow stuff up with lasers (on purpose). And lately, we have been working on a better battery. With only $5,000, our lab would have the power to buy materials for this project, prototype a larger battery, and fund an undergraduate researcher during summer 2018. My students and I have a passion for renewable energy. New technology makes solar and wind power less expensive every year; in many places, solar is the cheapest power available. However, solar and wind are intermittent and this limits how much of our current power grid can be replaced with renewable sources. Unless an economical storage solution is found, renewable power will remain a fuel-saving technology rather than a true power generation technology. We propose to develop an iron battery that is inexpensive, simple, safe, and non-toxic. A mature version of this technology could help enable a renewable future for Idaho. Furthermore, the battery will be so simple that a hobbyist or high school student could build one for fun or as a science fair project. College of Art & Architecture Moscow self-identifies as the "Heart of the Arts" but this is not always evident on the streets of our town. We are interested in supporting, cultivating and activating art in public spaces to build a more engaged, visual and imaginative community on campus and beyond. We were awarded a Student Arts-Fee Grant to install two mural designs on the east side walls of the Art and Architecture East building that face downtown and Jackson/I-95. UI Facilities is also making this project possible by covering the costs of cleaning and priming the walls. Now we are asking for your support to help raise the $2,500 we need to finish installing the murals. To help make this happen, the dean has also given us $1,000 to double your gifts for the first $1,000 we raise! This location is an important (but not yet developed) gateway into the university and a perfect opportunity for us to showcase, strengthen, and blur the lines between campus and community. The college is hosting 13 programs during the summer in partnership with the Moscow Farmer's Market on a variety of topics, from entomology, animal science and plant science to nutrition, food science, water science and much more. Equipping future scientists. Our goal is to get children interested in science at a young age to learn more about the world around them and the importance of agriculture and natural resources. Each child that participates in the Summer of Science at the market receives a free CALS science kit that includes a magnifying glass, notebook, ruler and cinch bag so they can explore and make their own scientific observations at home. We know this amount of money and time commitment is not possible for all of our students. The purpose of this project is to assist the Alternative Service Break program in expanding it's offerings and work towards the goal of being an inclusive program. With your help, the center will add weekend trips to the program in order to offer an alternative break experience that is more conducive to a wider variety of student schedules and financial status. Weekend experiences would also enhance the land-grant mission of the institution by serving the state. Come be part of leaving a lasting impact on the CBE! This project to renovate the student space in the ALB is for students and by students Basement Renovation Team Have you seen our basement? It's what we're used to but it has SO much more potential. Since Fall 2015, a team of Business and Interior Design students has been working on a plan to renovate what should be the CBE Student Space in the basement of the Albertson Building. Our team has put thousands of hours of work into this project and we need your help to finish it off! What's changing? In short, mostly everything. The new design includes updates to the floors, ceiling, and everything in between. Some highlights are new furniture (remember the furniture demonstration last semester?), a green wall, a fireplace, glass walls on our conference rooms, and a bunch of interactive technology. Maybe most importantly, the final design is a place where people actually want to be. How is the design coming? It's finished! Our team has completed our design and have hired an architect to finalize the details. We've won awards for the project at a few different competitions and conventions and are extremely proud of the product. So, what's next? As always, funding is next. The CBE administration is working on fundraising for the project from their end but we wanted to create a campaign to show that students care about their future as well. How can you be a part? The University of Idaho Humanitarian Engineering Corps (UI-HEC) is a student-led nonprofit humanitarian organization established to partner with communities worldwide to facilitate community driven design that improves access to basic human needs. Our Project: UI-HEC has committed to our partner community of Carani, Bolivia for a minimum of five years, working with the people of Carani to design and construct a sustainable water supply system to better serve the needs of the entire community. For the past two years, we have designed and implemented the first phase of a four-part freshwater distribution system, and are currently working on the second phase to serve an additional zone of the community. Our Students: UI-HEC connects UI students of all majors and technical backgrounds through international service opportunities. Students in UI-HEC develop valuable skills such as cultural competence, interdisciplinary teamwork, sustainable design, communication and project management, as we utilize our engineering education for the good of humanity.
