The University of Idaho Chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering strives to introduce the students in the College of Engineering, as well as the rest of the university, to the various ways in which mechanical engineering in used in the industry at large. The club hosts a variety of local industry tours throughout the year, the highlight of which is the Spring Industry Tour to Seattle, Washington. On campus, the club invites industry professionals and professors to give talks and answer student questions about the speaker’s lives as professional engineers. The ASME Student Lounge provides a great space to host these events, for students to engage with one another in their studies, work on projects, and to generally de-stress between classes. However, the lounge needs a serious boost. The current furniture, which seems nearly as old as the building, needs to be replaced and there is simply not enough project space for everyone to have a spot. The drab walls and echo place a damper on what would otherwise be the hottest spot on campus.
Where will the buck stop?
Every dollar donated will go directly to improving the lounge, creating a fantastic space where students will feel comfortable and can accomplish great things.
Result
Adding more worktables, couches, and project space will allow for the lounge to accommodate more students at a given time, crafting a fun and inclusive atmosphere. New paint and sound dampening tiles will create a relaxing and enjoyable space, likely attracting more students to the space. Installing a projector and projection screen that has been donated to the club will capabilities of the lounge.
