Help the Vandal Food Pantry with their efforts to reduce food insecurity at the University of Idaho. Vandal Food Pantry Defining Food Insecurity: According to USDA, food insecurity is defined as “a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life." Food insecurity for college students can have serious repercussions on overall health and academic performance, both of which are important for retention and access to future opportunities. Students facing food insecurity are more likely to rate their health as fair, poor, or very poor, rate more frequent depression symptoms, and experience more limits to opportunities to study and get involved. Food Insecurity at U of I: A 2019 study from the National College Health Assessment showed that at the U of I, 48% of Vandals report being food insecure at some point during their academic year. That’s nearly half of our student population that lack access to nutritious foods essential for each student to fulfill their Vandal potential. Campaign Details: The objective of this crowdfunding campaign is to decrease the percentage of the student population that is facing food insecurity on the University of Idaho campus. Each donation will go to support meal kits. Which provide nutritionists shelf safe food for 3-4 days for the average adult. Each meal kits is assembled according to the USDA My Plate Program to promote a balanced diet. As a Vandal Family, we believe it is important to support each other and work together to make sure that no one falls through the cracks or is left behind. Whether it is through acceptance to the university or being hired on as staff or faculty, we all have this university binding us together as one group. Our camaraderie as Vandals means that, whether right here in Moscow, Idaho or all the way across the world, we can say “Go Vandals” to a fellow Vandal and receive a spirited “Go Vandals!” right back. This is the power of the Vandal spirit. The Vandal Food Pantry is one way that we, as Vandals, continue to support each other. By contributing to this campaign, you are saying that you believe in the power of the Vandal Family and that there should be #novandalhungry.

Give Thanks for our Teachers School Supply Drive

This committee raises funds to buy school supplies for the Canyon County School District every year to help alleviate that pressure from teachers in the area.
This committee raises funds to buy school supplies for the Canyon County School District every year to help alleviate that pressure from teachers in the area. U of I Boise U of I Boise Culture and Climate Committee’s mission is to promote an environment of inclusion and connection which will build expanded relationships among the students, faculty, and staff of the University of Idaho Boise and the surrounding region. U of I Boise’s Culture and Climate Committee is committed to setting, maintaining and supporting a positive working environment for our Vandal employees. One way this program keeps morale boosted is through community engagement. The Culture and Climate Committee keeps employees connected to students, alumni, and community members through donations drives that benefit education and local nonprofits such as the Idaho Humane Society’s holiday pet supply drive and Women and Children’s Alliance Christmas toy donations. U of I Boise promotes professional and personal learning opportunities by partnering with environmentally friendly organizations such as May in Motion, and by working to get that strong, positive Vandal spirit out into the Treasure Valley through community service projects (Boise Kind Day, Boise Bike project’s repair-a-bike day for kids, etc.). This program raises funds for school supplies for Canyon County school district, directly helping middle schools and teachers in Canyon County. The school(s) selected also have a high enrollment of Hispanic and lower income youth, giving relief to thinly stretched parents and families who are not able to contribute towards classroom supplies. Our program supplements school supplies provided at the beginning of the term and alleviates some of the financial burden middle school teachers face by purchasing supplies they would otherwise have to pay for out of pocket. Every little bit helps to keep our fabulous teachers focused on enriching and energizing the kids in their classrooms. We are not only trying to give back to the community, we are also trying to foster positive relationships with educational communities here in the Treasure Valley. It also helps spread the University of Idaho's name as a leader in community engagement and generosity. Whether it’s weeding a community garden, gathering donations for those in need, or encouraging workplace healthy habits through lunchtime Tai-Chi classes, U of I Boise’s CCC is dedicated to spreading Vandal spirit and cheer. Any donations will support this program that benefits the teachers, administrators and students of Canyon County.

U of I Extension helps inspire youth across the state with a passion for STEM through competitive and non-competitive robotics programs. U of I Extension U of I Extension 4-H Robotics strives to promote, support and manage K-12 programs that engage Idaho students in high quality STEM activities. We provide competitive and non-competitive competitions for students and are an Idaho Affiliate Partner Organization for FIRST LEGO League Jr., FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge. Across the state, we have over 1,600 students participating in our competitive programs with even more participating in our non-competitive 4-H robotics programs. Many students show interest in going on to receive post-secondary degrees in STEM fields, and studies show that students who participate in these types of programs are much more confident in their problem solving, teamwork and STEM skills. We want to keep this program alive and affordable for Idaho youth. We want to keep participation fees low and rent equipment to new teams so they don't have to buy their own. With your support, we can inspire a new generation to get excited about technology, engineering and computer science.

TRIO Inspire TRIO-Inspire prepares low-income, first-generation, and underserved populations for college and careers. We foster equity by providing access to transformational education and support. Our college-preparatory programming provides individualized guidance, a wide range of workshops, and summer academies. We empower our students to overcome their obstacles and become transformative leaders. Idaho has one of the lowest go-on rates in the country, and we work to improve those statistics. We provide individualized programs and workshops to help students and their families prepare for college life, whether that be at a university or community college. TRIO-Inspire meets the university's mission as a land-grant institution to better serve Idaho populations with access to education. Our vision is simple: to improve healthcare for rural and underserved patients in Idaho. Project ECHO (Extension for Community Health Outcomes) connects medical professionals and behavioral health specialists across the state via video conferencing to provide free and continuing medical education. There are various interactive video sessions for professionals all across the state that begin with a short lecture on best practices followed by time for questions and a panel for difficult cases submitted by participants. Project ECHO's main focuses have been on best practices for treating opioid addiction and mental health conditions. Any medical or behavioral health professional, medical professions student or other type of clinician can participate for free! Why support Project ECHO? Idaho health care providers can face serious challenges in helping their patients receive care for complex conditions. Most of the state is designated as a primary care health professional shortage area and the entire state is designated as a mental health professional shortage area. By supporting Project ECHO, you are ensuring ECHO Idaho can continue to offer free training for medical and behavioral health professionals throughout the state to make sure Idahoans get the right care, in the right place, at the right time. The Dig'nIT Internship Program pairs regional tech companies with high school juniors to develop practical skills as students prepare for college and career. U of I Coeur d' Alene The Dig'nIT internship program gives tech-minded teenagers a unique opportunity to dive into a professional setting for a summer of hands-on learning, all while earning a decent wage. From manufacturing to nonprofits, technology is everywhere – even in the traditional trades of North Idaho. Dig’nIT connects regional tech companies and startups with high school juniors to focus on practical skills development required for industry success. Partnering with local high schools and businesses, this program provides students with real-world experience in STEM/STEAM careers. Students shadow professionals while creatively assisting with technical support, computer programming projects, and learning how to contribute to a professional team effort. Dig’nIT interns are selected through a competitive application and interview process. Their experience begins with a week of soft skills training, including expectations and goal setting. Interns commit to 30 hours per week for eight weeks during summer break. The University of Idaho Coeur d'Alene center pays each intern $2,875 to encourage dedication and focus throughout the internship. As a non-funded U of I program, your support is necessary for the program to continue to serve as many students as possible as they begin preparing for college and high-tech careers. This one-of-a-kind program offers lasting benefits for North Idaho students, businesses and communities. Coeur d’Alene is becoming a hub of innovation with the highest density of startups in the state and a ranking in the top five best performing small cities in the U.S. As a Dig’nIT intern, high school students get a jump start in the fast-paced, high-demand field of tech and an early tie to the Vandal experience. Dig’nIT asks for any donation to help grow this internship program and priceless Vandal experience for these young adult leaders.

This outreach program by the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival inspires a love and appreciation for jazz in K-12 programs throughout the state. Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival is one of the largest and oldest educational jazz festivals in the world. There are over 400 student performances, a dozen world-class jazz artists, and nearly 100 workshops, clinics and special exhibits. Since the 1960s, the festival has honored jazz's music, history and dance, and of course, one of its most honored artists: Lionel Hampton. Over the years, thousands of students have attended the festival. The festival leaves a lasting impression on all those that participate and attend, spreading the joy of jazz throughout the region. Jazz in the Schools is an outreach program through the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, bringing the festival experience into the classroom. The goal is to get students across the Northwest excited about all types of music, but specifically jazz. We provide jazz education materials, activities and a presentation with master musicians and educators. With your support, we can continue spreading the joy of jazz, keeping Lionel Hampton's tradition alive and swinging.

The Boise Law program needs funds to maintain their free community clinic for survivors of domestic violence. They provide any resources survivors might need. U of I College of Law The University of Idaho College of Law and Family Advocacy Center and Education Services (FACES) is a legal Aid Clinic that provides free legal services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence, elder abuse, child abuse and stalking. The Family Justice Clinic is located in Boise, Idaho and serves the citizens of Ada County. The Family Justice Clinic is a warm and welcoming place where people affected by interpersonal violence can come and receive help with no judgement, no strings, no wait lists, and no fees. The University of Idaho College of Law Family Justice Clinic is one of seventeen public partners that collaborate to provide a wide range of services from safety planning, civil legal aid, law enforcement reporting, medical care, crisis counseling and other public assistance programs. Beginning in Jan. 2018, the College of Law has partnered with Faces of Hope to provide law students the chance to take the knowledge and skills they learn in the classroom and put them into action by representing survivors in various civil legal issues including divorce, custody, housing, and attaining protection orders. Students interview clients and witnesses, draft pleadings, negotiate with opposing counsel and advocate in court. By working closely with the program’s professor and licensed attorney, Michael Carney, students learn to engage in client-centered representation and exercise strategic judgment. Our partnership with the Family Justice Clinic is just one example of the College’s dedication to providing students both with meaningful experiential learning opportunities while still at the College, as well as opportunities to have real and significant impacts on the lives of their clients. The Family Justice Clinic is a wonderful collaboration of legal, medical, counseling, and law enforcement providers, and the College is honored to be able to participate and provide as much assistance as we can.
