SOLAR POWER UPDATE

August 27, 2020

Dear Friends,

If you walk past the Institutional Research and Innovation Center (IRIC) on the Moscow, Idaho campus you may catch a glimpse of workers installing U of I's first rooftop photovoltaic solar array. After the crowdfunding campaign ended last fall our team continued fundraising.  Thanks to the kindness and generosity of donors like you and the Office of President Green we are installing 100% of the array.

With gratitude,

Jeannie Matheison

Donations exceeding $20,000 are lighting up IRIC with Renewable Solar Power!

December 16, 2019

It’s a heartwarming experience to receive so many generous donations from friends and colleagues from nine states throughout the USA.  Together, 115 donors and 39 solar ambassadors have raised $20,724 toward the purchase of 125 photovoltaic solar panels for the roof top of the Institutional Research and Innovation Center (IRIC).  We’d like to give special recognition to “Solar Champion” Alturas Analytics, Inc. ($500), and “Renewable Energy Investor” Brandon Johnson ($1,000).  Thank you!!

As the project moves forward we will keep you updated on progress.  Currently, the UI Solar Initiative team is reviewing a number of design/build proposals for the IRIC photovoltaic solar array.

For your kindness and generosity, Thank you!!

Jeannie, Marc, Kylie, and the UI Solar Initiative Team

P.S. If you would like to continue supporting the IRIC solar project visit  https://uandigive.uidaho.edu/project/16664.

Thank You For Your Generosity!

November 18, 2019

Dear Friends,

It’s a heartwarming experience to open the U&I GIVE SOLAR website to find so many generous donations from friends and colleagues near and far.  You are wonderfully kind and generous—Thank You!   We’d like to give special recognition to Solar Champions Ray Hatch, Bernardo Wills Architects, Byron and Karen Flynn, Colin Okada, Hoffman Construction, Bruce Haglund, Kristin Haltinner, Marc Compton, Ray and Judy Pankopf, and Renewable Energy Investors MW Consulting Engineers!

Collectively, our donations of $12,600 are enough to support the purchase of 76 solar panels on IRIC!  Because of you, the University of Idaho is investing in an energy system powered by renewables.

With gratitude,

Jeannie, Marc and Kylie

Your donations are accelerating U of I's transition to renewable energy!

October 21, 2019

Dear friends,

On behalf of the students, staff, faculty, and administrators working on the Solar Initiative, thank you for your donation! Your kindness and generosity is accelerating the U of I's transition to clean, renewable energy!!

We'd also like to thank the 30+ solar ambassadors who are volunteering their time to help tell the story of solar.  Delany Buel, a junior studying Journalism and Mass Media is filming short clips of supporters expressing WHY bringing solar to campus matters to them. Kylie Cutler, a junior studying Civil Engineering and a co-lead on the Solar Initiative explains why renewable energy is important to her.

With gratitude,

Jeannie, Marc, and Kylie

We've raised $6,000 in 1-week!

October 15, 2019

To our generous donors, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude for your very kind gift. Collectively, we have raised $6,000 which is enough to support the purchase of 36 solar panels for the rooftop of IRIC!!

FUND UI SOLAR

Electricity usage accounts for over two-thirds of campus greenhouse gas emissions making it the most important factor in reducing our carbon footprint.  That’s why the Sustainability Center in collaboration with Facilities has developed plans for a large solar power array, the first of its kind on campus.  Over its lifetime, the system will generate more than 5-million kW hours of energy and in the process eliminating 4.3 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.

Installation of a solar array is one of many cost saving steps the university is taking on our journey toward carbon neutrality by 2030.

Thank you for your generosity!

October 11, 2019

Dear friends,

It’s a heartwarming experience to open the U&I GIVE SOLAR website to find so many generous donations from friends and colleagues near and far.  You are wonderful—Thank You!   In addition, we’d like to give special recognition to MW Consulting Engineers for their investment of $1,000 in renewable solar energy.

Collectively, our donations of $4,810 are enough to support the purchase of 29 solar panels on IRIC!  Because of you, we are moving toward a carbon neutral future and giving students a hands on learning experience in a rapidly growing jobs market.

With gratitude,

Jeannie, Marc and Kylie

Fundraising for renewable solar energy!

October 07, 2019

The culmination of two years of work, the campus solar initiative is a passion project for many engineers, architects and administrators working to bring renewable solar energy to campus.  Please take a minute or two to watch the solar videos—above—and you’ll learn for yourself why we are dedicated to installing a solar array on the Moscow campus!

We were fortunate to have an engineering student, Ned Caisley, on our staff when we began this project two years ago.  In addition to writing and producing the two videos above, Ned took the lead in completing a campus solar site assessment which you can review on the Sustainability Center website at https://www.uidaho.edu/current-students/sustainability-center/resources/reports.  We wouldn’t be where we are today without Ned’s support, and frankly we could use your support too.  Please consider giving what you can. With your help we are one step closer on the university’s journey toward carbon neutrality by 2030!

With gratitude,

Jeannie, Marc and Kylie
