We did it! Thanks to your generosity and that of many others, yesterday we reached our $3500 goal and exceeded it by over $400. Thank you to our many donors for helping to make this project happen. It's a great learning experience for our students. We are especially grateful to have received a donation from the US Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station Moscow Forestry Sciences Lab and Missoula Fire Sciences Lab in honor of Dr. Russ Graham, a UI alumnus who recently passed away. This is particularly meaningful given our long history of fire science research on the Experimental Forest.
Yesterday we met with our engineering design team at the site and they are off and running getting started on the project! Their work will continue through the spring semester. We'll work with Idaho Fish and Game and other agencies on the design and permitting process and hope to complete this project by fall 2021 after all necessary approvals have been received.
We'll provide additional updates on the design chosen and construction progress over the next several months. Thank you everyone for all your positive support and generosity!
Best regards,
UIEF Timber Bridge Team
We are deeply grateful to Gerald Epp of StructureCraft for his generous donation to the Timber Bridge project! Mr. Epp's gift is helping to provide a great professional learning experience for our engineering design team. We would also like to thank the Moscow Area Mountain Bike Association (MAMBA) for their gift. The broad support from our local, non-motorized recreation community has been amazing. With these contributions and support from several other individuals today, we've received over 90% of our goal with 2 days left in the campaign. Thank you everyone!
Today we are very grateful to the Palouse Road Runners for their generous gift of $500 to help build the bridge! This is a great spot for local running. The existing forest road up along the stream is a beautiful 3+ mile up and back that passes through the 70-acre Big Meadow Special Management Area at the top of the UIEF ownership, just below the Troy Reservoir. We'll gradually be adding new trails branching off from the main road in the future, both east and west of the stream. Please share with others to help us build the bridge. Only 4 days left to meet our goal of $3500!
We are doing great raising funds for the Timber Bridge project with over $1100 of $3500 raised! THANK YOU to all who have donated! For those who want to see what the current 'bridge' looks like, please see our UIEF instagram post @uiexperimentalforest. It's just not acceptable. Can't you imagine strolling over a nice, new wooden bridge? Please spread the word to help support our engineering, forestry, and wildlife students by help making this project happen!
Many small trees grow together in a young lodgepole stand. Give a little. Every bit helps!
The needles of this species don't turn yellow in the fall. They turn Vandal gold!
