Friends of the McClure Center,
This year, we are excited and honored to celebrate what would have been U.S. Senator Jim McClure’s 100th birthday. Jim was a pillar of bipartisanship and public service. He served in the Idaho Senate from 1961 to 1966 and in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1967 to 1973, was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1972 and served until 1991 when he retired. During his time in Washington, DC, Jim was dedicated to working with his colleagues across the aisle to further policies that would benefit Idahoans for generations to come.
In 2007, U of I recognized the McClures for their significant contributions to the university, state and nation by renaming its Bureau of Public Affairs Research as the James A. and Louise McClure Center for Public Policy Research.
By supporting the McClure Center, through the 100th Birthday Celebration, you are helping to cultivate future community leaders who will undoubtably make a meaningful difference in communities throughout Idaho.
Our Goal:
To honor Senator McClure’s 100th birthday we are asking for your help to be one of at least 100 people to donate $100 going towards the McClure Center’s Vandals in D.C. Scholarship. The McClure Center supports University of Idaho undergraduate students with scholarships to spend a semester – spring, summer, or fall – in the nation’s capital, in partnership with The Washington Center’s Academic Internship Program. Students earn a full semester of credit while in Washington, D.C.
