Dear HEC supporters,
It's been a busy semester so far, but we have finally received data on the existing well and houses in Challcha and are designing the first phase of the water distribution project! We are currently working on selecting an appropriate pump for the well and considering different setups for the storage and distribution system. Our goal for this summer is to continue working with our partners in Bolivia to purchase and install the well pump and connect it to the existing storage tank. Next year HEC will begin work on a distribution system to expand access for the community. Having a functional well will be a huge step forward for the residents of Challcha and we are grateful for your contributions which make it possible!
Go Vandals and have a great spring!

Dear HEC Supporters,
As you probably guessed, our University of Idaho Humanitarian Engineering Corps team was not able to travel to Bolivia this summer due to the corona pandemic. However, the good news is that using some of the money from your generous donations we have still been able to make progress in our commitment to bringing clean water to Challcha!
Working with our partner organization in Bolivia, Engineers in Action, we have arranged to send a small team of local engineers to the community once Bolivian quarantine regulations allow. This team (including a few familiar faces from previous trips to Bolivia) will send our students at the the UI data on water quality, physical layout, community needs, and other metrics which will allow us to start designing the Challcha system before our planned trip this upcoming summer.
While not ideal, this arrangement will bring allow HEC members to remain engaged in the design project and gain real life experience despite this summer's setbacks, all while bring the community of Challcha a significant step closer to clean, accessible drinking water. Thank you all so much for making this possible!
Stay safe and Go Vandals!

The second week of our U&I Give campaign has just finished up and we are well on our way with over $1,600 in generous donations so far! That being said, we still have a long way to go to reach our goal of $10,000 so make sure to spread the word to all your friends who haven't donated yet. Hi guys!
I just wanted to send out a special thank you to all the donors who helped us get the campaign off to a great start! HEC provides an amazing experience for our students here at the UI, while simultaneously helping impoverished communities get access to basics like clean drinking water, and we couldn't do any of this without you guys. If you haven't gotten a chance to donate yet there are still two more weeks left of the campaign so it's not too late! If you can't donate but would still like to help get us to Bolivia, please share this campaign with your friends and on social media. Thank you again to everyone who's helped us get this far and hope y'all have a great Monday!
